Anjos Waterfall
Anjos Waterfall, also called Cascata dos Anjos, descends down a coastal cliff beside Madeira’s former ER101 road near Ponta do Sol. It became widely known through photographs and social media, but the road and waterfall area are officially closed for safety reasons.
History and character
The waterfall is part of Madeira’s steep south-coast landscape, where rainwater runs down volcanic cliffs towards the Atlantic. The old ER101 road once passed beneath the falling water, but it is exposed to landslides and the wet surface can be extremely slippery. Authorities have closed access because the area does not meet safe visiting conditions.
